Physical Infrastructure

Michigan Lambda Rail (MiLR): The Michigan Lambda Rail is a regional optical network that connects the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Michigan State University and the Starlight networking facility. MiLR provides a low-cost method for provisioning high performance network links between these institutions using dense wave division multiplexing techniques.

Software Infrastructure

Scalable Adaptive Graphical Environment (SAGE): SAGE is a middleware suite developed at the University of Illinois at Chicago's Electronic Visualization Laboratory. SAGE allows us to use high performance computing clusters to power a large number of monitors as a single display. SAGE is the primary software that we use to operate our OptIPortal tiled displays.

iHDTV 1500: iHDTV is a set of tools that enables the packetization, transport and de-packetization of SMPTE 292M high-definition video signals over IP. This software suite enables the real-time, low-latency transmission of studio-quality HD video for interactive applications.

Rocks: The Rocks Linux distribution provides an easy way to build and manage visualization clusters. We use Rocks on all of our clusters, taking advantage of software supplied in the Viz roll to test and configure our tiled displays.
